Portraits

Well, I braved the mall today with two little ones to get the dreaded portraits taken. It was pretty scary. Riley was a little stinker...surprise, surprise...and Tanner wasn't exactly an angel either. Oh well. We got a couple of cute ones, so I guess it was worth it. I ordered 3 of these pictures and will have them in a week or so. We'll post them when they come in. However, if you want to see them sooner, you can click on the link below to get to them. :)

Tanner Stats

Tanner went for his checkup yesterday and here are his stats:

3-weeks old

21 1/4 inches long--(35th percentile)
10lbs, 9 oz--(50th percentile)
15 inch head circumference--(30th percentile)

So, he's not as big as we think he is huh?!?! Riley was also in the 30th percentile for everything...except head size in which he was ALWAYS in the 90th+ percentile...And now Riley is in the high 90th percentile for everything, so Tanner has a chance. :)

Apple Spice Cake

Okay, so Todd's cousin Robyn...who is an excellent cook...made this cake when we went to visit her a few months ago. It was so delicious that I asked her for the recipe and have made it several times. Every time I make it I get A LOT of compliments. In fact, people ask me to make it when we have get-togethers. Anyway, I thought I would share it with you all. It makes an interesting batter, but it turns out to be a delicious cake. Enjoy!! :) (I'm not a fan of caramel sauce...I'd rather have vanilla ice cream...so, I never make it with the caramel.)

Apple Spice Cake

Serves 10

1 1/3 cups vegetable oil

3 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

2 cups sugar

3 large eggs

3 to 4 Granny Smith apples, cored and cut into 1/2-inch pieces (3 cups)

1 cup chopped assorted nuts, such as pecans and walnuts (optional)

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Caramel Sauce

Nonstick cooking spray with flour

1. Preheat oven to 350°. Spray a 12-cup bundt pan with cooking spray; set aside.

2. Working over a large sheet of parchment paper, sift together flour, cinnamon, baking soda, and salt; gather sifted ingredients into center of sheet; set aside.

3. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, combine vegetable oil, sugar, and eggs; mix on high speed until lemon yellow.

4. Fold reserved parchment in half lengthwise; with mixer on medium speed, gradually shake in dry ingredients until just incorporated.

5. Add apples and, if desired, nuts, to batter; mix to combine. Add vanilla, mixing until incorporated.

6. Pour batter into prepared pan, and bake until a cake tester inserted in the center comes out clean, 75 to 90 minutes.

7. Remove from oven, and cool slightly on a wire rack.

8. Invert cake onto rack; turn cake right-side up to cool completely on rack, and serve drizzled with caramel sauce

Riley and Tanner

Well, as promised, here is a new blog of the boys. I am feeling very proud of myself that I am posting a blog instead of taking a nap...I'll probably regret this later. I am actually feeling very accomplished today; apart from posting this blog, I just finished cleaning the kitchen while talking to Jenny on the phone. I also watched the last installment of Pride and Prejudice with Collin Firth while feeding the baby...(I am a self-proclaimed Mr. Darcy enthusiast and am proud of it!) I also took Todd to the airport today for his little trip this weekend. Wow! It's been a busy day. :)

Confessions

I have something to confess...we have not taken a single picture of Tanner since this picture that was taken the day we got home from the hospital. How sad is that. He is allready feeling the effects of the dreaded "middle child syndrome". (I don't know much about this syndrome, but Em and Mike have informed me of the terribleness of it, and it does sound awful!!) Poor kid. Anyway, my goal on this snowy day is to take lots of pictures. So, Tanner will get a bath...something he absolutely detests...he will get dressed in a darling outfit...which he also detests..., and he will pose again and again for the ol' camera...whether he likes it or not. :)

Tanner and Daddy

Sorry it has taken so long to post another blog about the baby. I am exhausted and Todd has been working a lot of extra hours. Anyway, I'm sure you all understand. Besides being completely wasted, things are going really well. Tanner is as sweet as ever and Riley absolutely LOVES him. It is a big relief for Todd and me that Riley has taken to Tanner the way he has. He has just totally accepted Tanner into his life and is very sweet and tender with him. We will try to be better at posting more pics and video of the baby to keep everyone updated...but just bear with us for a little while longer. :)

Tanner vs. Riley

See any similarities?

Tanner Patrick Register

Tanner was born Feb 1st at 8:56am at 9 lbs 5oz. He came out swinging as he tried to bite Dr. Freedman's fingers while only partially out of the womb! Everyone had a laugh at that. Everything went very smoothly and we are so grateful to finally have him here with us. Thanks for all the help everybody! It's been pretty hectic so I'll just post a few pictures right now. More later.

Napping after a hard days work.

Riley playing nice. We'll see how long that lasts.

1st Family portrait.

I finally got a picture with his eyes open.
