Yesterday marked the end of concert week for the Symphony Chorus. We had 3 concerts this weekend and they went really well. We sang the Brahms Requiem, which is one of my very favorite pieces of music ever. It was so much fun to sing in the new hall as well. So much better than where we were before. Below is us singing This Moment from this weekend. It was written by Mark Hayes who is a fellow Kansas City-an. Charles Bruffy directed us. Now, on to Messiah. (I'm seriously tired just thinking about it!)
This week is concert week...eek!...so poor Todd is going to be a single dad. Hope this menu helps!
Monday: Taco Chili Tuesday: French Toast and Fruit Wednesday: Green Chili Chicken Enchiladas and Spinach Salad Thursday: Chicken Sandwiches and Sweet Potato Fries Friday: Dutch Babies and Fruit Saturday: Quesadillas Sunday: Egg McMuffins
Today I took a special treat in for Riley's class. It was a huge hit! I'm so glad we live in a school district where you can still bring in homemade treats. It was fun.
Todd and I had our 2nd annual Halloween costume party last night and it was so much fun! Last year we invited too many people for our not so large house, so this year we kept it small'ish. There was 13 of us and it was perfect. The food was yummy, the games were fun, and the company was great.
We had soup and bread this year. I made a soup, "Zuppa Toscana" from Todd's cousin Heidi's blog. It was DELICIOUS!!!! I personally do not like Italian sausage, so I didn't eat any of it, but I did taste the broth and it was yummy. Everybody raved about it...thanks Heidi :) My friend Holly made a super delicious baked potato soup and my friend Kali made a delectable white chicken chili with just the right amount of spice. I ate a bowl of each of these soups...Mmmmmmmm! (Think recipes ladies!) My friends April and Autumn made some bakery worthy bread for us that I also need the recipes for (hint, hint.) And of course, we had Strawberry Limeades to wash it all down.
The Old Man, I mean Rob as The Hackings From The Past, Ryan as the Arab Sheikh, and Todd the Hula Girl, complete with coconut brazier.
50's April and Jason along with the dish who ran away with the spoon (so cute!).
Ever seen this guy? We welcomed Ron Swanson and Leslie Knoppe to our party. Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to grace us with your presence.
The Games!
The Oreo Cookie On Your Face Game. Kali and Jill duke it out. Sorry Kali, but Jill is a natural...you didn't stand a chance :)
Penny At The Bottom Of A Pair Of Pantyhose Game. And the winner is Jason...no wait, and the winner is Michael. Better luck next time Jason.
This game was HILARIOUS! We put a pedometer on April and Anna's head and counted how many "steps" their head could bob before the time was up. Don't kill me April for posting this video....it was too good not to share!
Anna's turn...
The old "Blowing Cups Off a Table With The Air From A Balloon Game"...an old classic.
Sorry Todd, the Sheikh beat ya by 2 seconds!
Ping Pong Tic Tac Toe. This game was a lot of fun. I think the "ball boys" had the roughest part of this whole game :) And the winner was Rob! You can thank me later for your Rated R gift Rob (Sheesh!)
After games we enjoyed some yummy treats. Thanks Anna for making the awesome witches finger cookies. They were fantastic! We also had "forked eyeballs" which were doughnut holes speared by a fork and then dipped into white almond bark. I used a chocolate chip for the pupil and when the almond bark had dried, I used red icing to make veins.
Ava turned 2 on Saturday. I cannot believe my baby is TWO?!?!?! Where has the time gone? I asked Tanner and Riley what we should do for Ava's birthday party and they both were VERY sure that Ava would want a Chuck-E-Cheese party. So, off to Chuck-E-Cheese we went. Ava did love it...and so did Tanner and Riley :)
Here is the cake I made for Ava. Now, I do not profess to be a cake decorator. I haven't ever practiced it before. I may start learning though...it's kind of fun. This cake may not be perfect, but Ava loved it In fact....
...she loved it so much that she wanted it the very SECOND we went into Chuck-E-Cheese. She was a bit miffed that we wouldn't let her have any until after we had eaten our pizza. She has definitely entered the terrible two's!
See...tantrum over and all smiles again!
For Ava's birthday, her Nana and Grandma Charlene got her this adorable kitchen. It has all the bells and whistles and sounds a little 2-year old (and 4-year old and 6-year old) could want.
Happy Birthday to my sweet Ava Girl. We love you!!!!
