I love John Stewart

Todd and I just watched the Daily Show with John Stewart...the January 20th episode and it was hysterical. I tried to find just the clip from this show on You Tube to post, but this was all I could find. So, watch the whole thing if you want, but the really funny part starts at 1:20.

Funny!

We found this pretty funny blog today. I think every now and again we will have to post pictures from this blog because they are seriously laughable. This just goes to show that no matter how technologically challenged you are, there is always someone who knows less. :)

A Little Inaugural Relflection

In the spirit of the Inauguration, I'd like to point out a few thoughts I have had.

First of all, I really feel like our country is not nearly as respectful as it should be. I mean come on, heckling and booing President Bush during the inauguration is just really wrong. He may not have been your favorite President, but he still was your President...have some respect. Also, I had a friend tell me that when Pres. Bush had his inauguration the press lambasted him for spending 40 million dollars on it. They were saying things like, think of all the starving people who could have had food, all the people who could have had healthcare etc... Well, in these times of economic hardships, Pres. Obama's inauguration cost somewhere in the ballpark of 140 million and what did the press say about that (can you see where I'm going with this?), they said, congratulations! Good for you! Now is a time to celebrate! Do you sense a double standard here folks? It must be nice to have the press backing up your every move...I wonder how long that will last?

Second of all, I just about died when I heard the bennediction! Speaking of respect, hardly anybody closed their eyes! I laughed out loud when the only person closing their eyes during this prayer was President Clinton...possibly the most immoral man in the country. What is up with that?!?! The prayer itself was quite nice I thought until the end...then it was like Dr. Seuss reincarnate. People even started laughing...during the prayer! Watch the you tube video starting from 4:50 to see what I mean.

So, I can totally see this scenario as the next SNL comedy sketch:

It's the inauguration and the little old black preacher gets up to say the benediction. He starts out by quoting Dr. Seuss, saying all sorts of nonsensical rhymes. You have Obama standing beside him looking sober and bobbing his head up and down in agreement. You have Michelle standing behind trying to "look pretty". You have President Clinton in the audience with his eyes tightly shut and his arms tightly folded with a halo over his head and wings on his back. Then all of a sudden the preacher says in all his preacher glory, "If it's mellow (dramatic pause)...let it mellow...If it's brown (dramatic pause)...flush it down" with all the people in the audience saying "Amens" when ever their sould feels the need. Can you picture it? :)

Time for two Riley quotes:

Yesterday I flipped on the t.v. to see what Inaugural news there was. Riley wasn't really paying attention until he heard the name Obama. Then his little head snapped up and here was our conversation:

"Obama?"

"Yes sweetie. Do you know who Obama is?"

"Yes. He is the ruler of the kingdom, and mom, Obama is not a hard word to say!"

I'm pretty sure he learned that at preschool because we have never talked politics in front of Riley. Maybe we should start including him in future conversations though since he seems interested. :)

On Saturday morning Riley came into our room and said he wanted to watch the "bad pliers". Hmmmm...what the heck is that? We asked him what "bad pliers" is and he humphed and said, "You know, Scooby Doo and the Bad Pliers." Ahh, light bulb moment...he wanted to watch Scooby Doo and the VAMPIRES.

A New Blog

Okay, I have another blog. It is a blog dedicated to getting prepared...a topic I have been rather passionate about as of late. It will be tailored towards my friends here in Kansas with gardening tips for this climate and grocery/drug store deals for this area...although CVS and Walgreens should have the same deals throughout the country. However, I am going to use this blog to post about lots of other things as well that everybody can benefit from: canning, budget meals, food storage, 72-hour kits, and other general preparedness ideas as well. If I have spoken with any of you over the past couple of months, then you will know that this is something I simply cannot get off of my mind. I think about it daily and have to do something about it...hence the blog. The blog is called Prepared in Kansas (all of the other cool names were taken).

Choose the What?

Today Todd went to go pick up Riley from his CTR 5 class when his teacher (she was a substitute teacher today) told him that she was a bit confused because Riley kept saying "Choose the Left" instead of "choose the right". :) Has has been really into opposites lately...he thinks it is absolutely hysterical!

The Food Storage Diva

I just found this blog through a link on a friend's blog and I love it! I haven't had nearly the time I would like to peruse it, but I will definitely be spending some time there during nap time today. I'm sure I'm not the only one out there who is kind of going crazy with my food storage, so I thought I'd pass this along. Her blog is called The Food Storage Diva. Have fun!!!

New Toys

Our neighbors from across the street came over to our house on Sunday to tell us that they are moving. They have three little boys and hence a lot of stuff that they don't want to take with them when they go. They asked if Riley and Tanner would like a train table along with trains and tracks. Um...duh! Of course they would. So they bring over a really nice train table and really fun tracks. So, we now have a train table in Riley's room and our old train table in Tanner's room that we put our "garages" and cars on. The kids are loving their life!

Todd and I were eating lunch today when Todd busts up laughing. I asked him what was so funny and he had me come and look at our fridge. Notice anything?

How about now?

Upside Down

Yesterday Todd and I hear Riley bust up laughing and say, "Daddy, you're upside down!" We turned around to find this...I think the picture speaks for itself. This will be a great ransom picture when Riley gets older and unruly! :)
